HCMC has revised up a revenue target for the tourism industry from VND35 trillion to VND46 trillion (US$2.78 billion) by 2010.

The new target is factored into the HCMC Department of Tourism’s development plan for the sector in 2006-10, which has been approved by the city government.

“The target is based on last year’s tourism growth of 12%,” Dong Thi Kim Vui, director of the city’s tourism department, told the Daily on Thursday.

The five-star Furama Resort in the central city of Danang has won the “Vietnam’s Leading Resort” title for 2008 by the World Travel Awards, the most prestigious awards programme in the international travel industry.

Turkish Airlines opened its Vietnam representative office in Hanoi Monday and named the Huong Giang Aviation Service Company as its general agent in the country.

The carrier will joint Vietnam Airlines and Thai Airways to offer flights from Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City to Turkey’s Istanbul capital via Bangkok, and then to other cities in the world, according to the airline’s Southeast Asian regional director Bahri Yilmaz.

The voting program “The most impressive service hotel and the most reliable travel agent” co- organized by Vietnam Tourism Association and website www.vietnamtourism.com.vn  elected two above unit as winners after two and a half-month-voting process (from 15 April to 30 June 2008).

The title “The most impressive service hotel” is for Yasaka Saigon Nha Trang Resort and Spa and “The most reliable travel agent” for Sasco Tourist Service Centre.
