New tours, destinations and promotions to the Mekong Delta were introduced at a seminar held on May 16 in Hanoi.
About 50 travel agents and companies from delta provinces attended the function.
Tomorrow, delegates will visit Hai Phong’s Cat Ba tourist area to learn about ecological and homestay tours in the province.
Mai Tien Dung, vice director of the Hanoi Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said that the number of foreign tourists to Viet Nam and the Mekong Delta had decreased in the first quarter.

Northwestern region attracted over 10 million visitors in 2012 thanks to a tourism development cooperation programme by eight provinces.
The figure was released during a conference in Hanoi on April 20 to introduce the provinces’ tourism potential and call for investment.
The eight provinces involved in the programme are Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Son La, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Ha Giang, Lai Chau and Dien Bien. The programme aims to reduce poverty in the localities by promoting tourism.
The People’s Committee of the central province of Quang Binh has approved an experimental adventure tour to Son Doong Cave suggested by Howard Limbert, expert of the British Cave Research Association.
Limbert recommended that due to unexplored nature of cave, the trial tours, to be held twice a month should consist of a group of only seven or eight visitors.
Despite rising service prices, Vietnam travel agencies are offering big discounts on tour prices during summer season to woo customers as now is the busiest time of the year for the hospitality industry.
A large number of Ho Chi Minh City-based tour operators offer a discount of at least 5% on domestic tours prices. Those tour operators who join hands with Vietnam Airlines, the prices of summer tour packages are even marked down by up to 30%.
More than 40,000 tickets worth up to VND300,000 (US$15) to watch fireworks by the Han River in the central coastal city of Da Nang on April 29-30 have been issued, according to organizers at the Da Nang International Fireworks Competition.
Three fourths of the tickets will be sold to tourists, while the rest remain as invitations. Prices ranges from VND200,000 (US$10) to VND300,000 (US$15), and tickets can be purchased at booths set up by the Da Nang Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and at some Vietnam travel agencies.
Descendance, a leading indigenous dance group from Australia, will make a tour of Vietnam, with the first performance in Hue city on April 7.
They will join artists from other countries to enthral audiences at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Hue Festival – a renowned international cultural event.
In addition to the opening ceremony, the Australian dancers will also perform throughout the festival, according to the Australian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City.
Those who have a liking for photography often indulge themselves with journeys to create their own collections. This type of traveling is called “photo tours,” and some Vietnam-based travel firms have recently arranged such tours to meet tourists’ demands.
Thanh Vu, marketing manager of a foreign corporation in Vietnam, said that in spite of being busy, he and his friends often carry photo cameras to roam everywhere for snapshots when having spare time. “We don’t put heavy emphasis on artistry, so we take very real and live pictures. The importance is when you look through the lens, the beauty alone is recorded. We really like this meaning, so we often self-organize such photo tours,” he said.
